Definitely the best place I have found in Turkey is Koycegiz, and that is why I chose to live here. It is a normal working Turkish town with just a little bit of Tourism.
Koycegiz is about 25 minutes from Dalaman airport and roughly half way between Fethiye and Marmaris. It is situated on a beautiful large lake and surrounded by the most spectacular mountain views.
We have a few hotels here, but none of the British holidays companies come here, we have many bars and some restaurants, but these are Turkish - no English pubs or karaoke here.
We have a delightful market every Monday throughout the year, which sprawls through the pretty streets leading down to the square.
There is about 2 kms of promenade along the lakeside leading from the woodland to the beach. And as Koycegiz is a protection area, we have no high buildings, no complexes with houses and shared pools.
Another reason I chose to live here is that property is so cheap still, my friends house is for sale fully furnished at just under 35k.
Hope I've got some of your tastebuds going.
Sarah

I will look at your photos now. And where do you recommend a person to stay when checking out Koycegiz? I am sure there are some hotels even if Koycegiz is not tourist infested.

Iy Gunler Bulent and Sarah, It does sound a beautiful place, and so unspoilt. I hate a place that has just English bars and 'Rover Return' pubs etc. We can have that at home, if that's what you want why travel. We'd like somewhere typically Turkish really, having said that we do like Icmeler. I hope it doesn't become any more commercialised though, otherwise it will be completely spoilt. I Suppose it all comes down to taste. Can you swim in 'your lake' and is the weather really warm Bulent or are you pulling our leg?

Sarah and Bulent I would love to come and take a look round one day, it sounds lovely. One of my Turkish friends said I should visit last year but didn't get round to it. I will be out in Datca for all of August, will you be around then and about how long would it take to drive there from Datca, I have an English friend with a car who I'm sure will drive me. I'm also out for 12 days in April and am wondering if it would be more comfortable to come in cooler weather. I don't think I'd want to buy a house as I already have one - but you never know! Jane

As I said in my introduction myself & Paul have a bungalow in Koycegiz. Which we bought sight unseen after speaking to Bulent & Sarah.
Believe me they are not joking when they say Koycegiz is Heaven on Water.
Anyone visiting in May 06 we would be happy to show around
Andre & Paul
