Ok, admittedly this is not the most exciting of subjects, but it has got my attention. For those of you who will be having tiling done or tiles replaced, consider having coloured grout in between the tiles instead of plain old white. Ýt adds so much to the tiles and acutally makes a feature out the grout, rather than it being something that just plugs a gap.
In my local builders yard in the village they have 6 colours, blues, caramel, greens, pinks etc..

You can buy stay white grout, but it doesn't work that brilliantly in shower areas

Will be very messy! You can also buy a product called ESP (easy surface prep) whicg claims to prepare surfaces such as tiles, formica, melamine etc. for painting but I think it's overhyped and overpriced. Be prepared to have to repaint frequently

Tiles are the best surface to tile onto! As long as they're in good condition and well-laid to begin with. Just bear in mind that the depth of the tiled walls will be very thick - if you have any tight spaces near where you want to retile check they will fit!
