Buying in Istanbul is the same as buying in any area of Turkey. My parents bought in Koycegiz. Firstly you need to find a reputable real estate company to deal with. We found a company by recommendation. Then we started viewing properties. The company we used were fantastic and explained the whole buying process clearly, and it comfirmed what we'd already researched through the net. We found our perfect home and made an offer just slightly under the asking price, which was accepted. We paid a standard deposit of 10% and contracts were signed. We had a contract with the real estate company and a contract was made with the house seller and the real estate company. 14 days later we paid the balance and the tapu (deeds) was submitted to the tapu office to be transferred to my parents name. The real estate company prepared all the paperwork for them to submit with the Tapu application. They had to have their passports translated, four photos taken and a detailed map done of the location of the house, (this is for the military checks). 3 & 1/2 months later and the checks had been done and the tapu was ready for collection. The previous owner and the real estate agency and my parents all met at the tapu office, the tax was paid and a small fee for the change of name, and the tapu was issued. ;D All of us thought that its so much easier buying property here, than in the UK. And big thanks to our agents who made buying so simple and hassle free. Sarah

You can put the property in your name, your husbands name or both, it doesn't make it anymore complicated so don't worry ;D
