Number of incoming tourists to Mugla exceeded 2 million 174 thousand;
Ýt is reported that as of the end of September, the number of foreign tourists arriving at Mugla by air and sea reached 2 million 174 thousand 188. Among the foreign tourists arriving by air and sea in the area, the British head the list again with 933 thousand 991 people.
The Governor of Mugla, M. Temel Kocaklar,stated that as of the end of September, 2006, the number of foreign tourists arriving by air and sea at prominent touristic centres in the region such as Marmaris,Bodrum and Fethiye with 2 international airports like Dalaman and Milas-Bodrum reached 1 million 174 thousand 188.
Governor Kocaklar informed that within the first 9 months, 1 million 96 thousand 24 foreigners arrived at Dalaman and 742 thousand tourists arrived at Milas- Bodrum,totalling to 1 million 838 thousand 254 while the rest of 335 thousand 934 entered into the country through the Marinas at Marmaris,Bodrum,Fethiye,Datca,Gulluk,Turgutreis and Yalikavak.
According to figures furnished by Kocaklar, only during the month of September, 392 thousand 708 foreign tourists arrived at Mugla and the vicinityby air and sea. During the nine months of the previous year,2 million 567 thousand 105 tourists arrived here while 486 thousand 708 foreigners came during last September.
Among the foreign tourists arriving at Mugla and its vicinity during the first 9 months of this year, the British once again head the list with 933 thousand 991 people. Next in the list are the Dutch with 214 thousand 862 visitors, the Germans with 183 thousand 471 people, the Russian Federation with 107 thousand 496 tourists and the Belgians with 94 thousand 470 tourists. The remainder of this total figure is composed of incoming tourists from various other foreign countries.
Governer Kocaklar pointed out that the traffic is still going on in the region and it is expected that the number of incoming foreign tourists this year will catch up with the figures of the previous year. He further pointed out that there wereapproximately 250 thousand beds provided for tourists in and around Mugla, which is a prominent centre of yacht tourism renowned by Blue Voyages.(from local paper land of lights)
