Supermarkets
Supermarkets are similar to those of western Europe but the range and type of goods does vary somewhat. For example, supermarkets in England are stuffed with ready prepared meals, fast food and huge choices of just about anything and for an area with a similar catchment to Fethiye there would probably be a hypermarket. However, the economy and goods bought by Turkish people are very different to England.
Most shops take credit cards but always remember to take some ID with you when using them as you will need to prove who you are.
Migros
Medium sized. Western supermarket and very popular with European people and richer Turkish people. Long opening hours 9.00 to 22.00 (midnight in the summer). Electrical and non food section. Regular offers - see magazine. Free parking. Sunday very busy. Loyalty card used - apply at reception. Some English speaking staff.
Gima
Similar to Migros but located in the town centre. Paid parking during the day but free at night. Clothes section larger but electricals limited. Loyalty card used apply at reception. Some English speaking staff. Cash machine.
BIM
2 stores. No dedicated parking. No alcohol. No frills type shop. Generally cheaper than other supermarkets for basics but limited stock range. Friday offers are very popular with local people so get in the queue early and take your body amour!!
Tansas
In between Migros and BIM in style. A new large store is being built on the 22 meter road between the roundabout and the new hospital. The town centre shop has closed.
Genpa
One store near to the bus station and one on the road to Karacula near Tespo. Supermarket style similar to Tansas. Another new shop has just opened in Calis on the 22 meter road - was the Star Market.
Tespo
Cash and carry located on the Antalya road towards Karacula. No membership is required but items must be bought in bulk. Prices are competitive but always check other supermarket prices and offers first. Car required.
Other shops - there are also many local privately owned markets where you can buy a wide range of food, drink and tobacco. Prices vary and may not be marked. Some shops may be cheaper than the supermarkets! Credit cards may not be accepted - check first.
