Firstly, does it matter if I am the only person posting questions? I have so many but feel silly if it's my name by all of them. I was looking at the cost of living post which was intersting but doesn't mean much cos I don't know how many TL you get to the pound. Can any one tell me - roughly? Also what form of money do we bring with us? Thanks ;D

Post as many questions as you like, the more the better. Regarding cost of living, the current exchange rate is about 2,38 tl to the pound. I shall go and edit my post to make it more clear. Sarah

Thanks both, what you have done re- the cost of living Sarah is great! It's seems very cheap. I am going to let my 9 year old son ask the next question.

Tracy We usually take enough Turkish Lira to get us through the first day, most of our spends in £s which are easy to change (in Icmeler the supermarkets offer the teletext rate with no commission) and emergency funds in Travellers cheques which we usually end up bringing back home with us - unless I can talk hubby into getting me some lovely gold jewellry!!! Exchange rate at moment is about 41p to 1YTL - in Sept it was 43p. It doesn't seem to be moving much so I usually call it 40p when working out how much I'm spending - it's really helped my 10 yr old daughteer with her 4x tables lol

Here is another thought for you. Nationwide Building Society are the only High Street bank not to charge for Debit Card withdrawals whilst you are on holiday.
Cash machines are plentiful in most of the resorts now, so what about opening an account in the UK and drawing our your money in Turkey. That way you get the going rate at the bank (often better than anywhere else) and you don't pay commission. The other plus side is that you don't have to cart around your passport for when you need travellers cheques cashed.

In Turkey you can exchage money everywhere, but you can also use the cashmachine. An TL isnt the wright name anymore, the have removed all the zero's so now the new name is YTL for the new money and TL for the old money (with all the zero's)

Michael and I have just opened a Flex Account with Nationwide, because of the no commission on forgein transaction. If it works as well as they say it will I will be very happy.
